Things You Should Know Before OET Exam

Are you ready for the big? Ready for the OET Exam Day?

Before taking OET Exam, you shall know of some very important things. 

OET is not medical-knowledge assessment. It is a language test. 

As a medical professional you may presume it could be easy as you are expert in your medical field but to put it bluntly, your medical knowledge will take the back seat and how proficient you are at use of English will matter a lot. No proficiency in English may mean no good score in OET. 
 
All four language skills 

Three will be four sub-tests which will cover four different but important language skills which include 

  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Writing (45 minutes)
  • Listening (approximately 50 minutes)
  • Speaking (approximately 20 minutes)

Test Format

You need to understand test format of all sub-tests. Of course, this will require good amount of time. Cursorily sieving through sample test papers will not help you in any way. Rather, you will be confused when you see the actual test paper during your test day. 

Grading System 

You need to know of the OET grading system. Your sub-tests will be graded from A to E. if you are the one who manages to get grade B or A then you will be regarded proficient in English. Grade C, D or E may not help you in any way. 

Setting goal for yourself  

It is always important that you shall set the score for yourself. If you are not able to get the recommended or the required score in your OET then you may have to spend time and money again to retake the exam. If you can set the goal and prepare as per your goal, then you will be in a state to perform well.  

Chalking out perfect study plan 

Three is always this need to get ready for the big OET exam day. Yes, you need to have proper study plan for the preparation of OET. Successful candidates are those who spend like 2-3 months in preparation for the exam. 

Yes, if you are someone who is not so-very-good at English then it is recommended that you shall spend some extra time in brushing up your English language. This will eventually help you a lot with getting a good score. 

And yes, you really do not have to spend hours and hours per day. You can pick one hour or two hours as per your convenience. But, make sure you stick to your schedule. There shall be consistency otherwise, you may not achieve your target.

Taking OET practice tests can help you greatly. Yes, these practice tests can make you aware of the difficulties which are inherent in this test. By taking sample tests, you will equip yourself with all required skills of time management, ways of answering, overcoming difficulties and more.
