Listening is another important module in OET as it can give the best grade if we do it rightly. Listening test comes with 3parts(Part A with 1-24 Questions, Part B 25-30 Questions, Part C 31-42 Questions) so to answer these 42 questions students will have 40 mins total recording, where in it includes listening and writing your answers as well. That means students should be quick enough to do multitasking. Listening and writing the answer together. Do not worry the students will definitely have some time for reading the questions as well before they start the real test for each part.

In Part A, students will get 2 extracts where one extract will have 12 questions and second extract will have the rest 12 questions and student will get 30 seconds time to read that 12 question in each extract. In PartB, students will have 6 questions from6 short recordings wherein student gets 15 seconds to read the question before each record plays, so read instruction and question carefully before attempting. In PartC, students get 2 recordings each plays for 5 minutes, wherein student needs to answer for 6 MCQ’s in each recording. These recordings are mostly based on medical journals/researches, so have a keen listening as to what exactly the author’s point is said, do not get into perceptions by reading the question itself. These all recordings can be in British accent or any Australian accent.  Check below for the tips to write easily.

  • Keen Listening: - Everyone would get one time recording to be played for writing answers so, listening skill should be improved upon before the test itself. Practice more on listening foreign audios or try to follow their shows by understanding their language pronunciations. While practicing you can listen twice or thrice until you get it.
  • Multitasking: - As we all know that this is a test of Reading questions, listening to the speakers and answering/writing them onto the paper simultaneously. All the 3 tasks should be dealt together in a quick move so, better be ready for it beforehand itself.
  • Accurate to the instructions given: - This means that we should stick to the instructions of the questions because if we get multiple choice questions and we need to select an alphabet as an answer in the instruction, suddenly we forgot and wrote as a word in the answer, even though it would be right but as per OET rules of evaluation it will be considered as wrong answer. So be incredibly careful with the guidelines or instructions before attempting any questions.
  • Be familiar with abbreviations and with different medical areas/professions: - This is in regards to the medical field abbreviations which commonly should be known and by reading other medical journals/researches,students can get acquainted with the other medical professions andthat can in turn help themin appearing for OET listening and reading modules. So, get familiar to these before giving the real exam itself.
  • Excessive information and change over answers: - InOET, be ready for odds all the time that means always extra information will be given before/after your answers to confuse you on it, which means you must listen a little while and understand according to the question given before jumping to write the answer.
  • Note: - Have complete concentration for 40 mins along with patience. Do not stop at any missing question continue attempting next. Be confident while doing the test that can bring gratifying Grade.
